Maryland Electricity Rates & Fixed Supply Options
The biggest bill of any state allowed to shop. And it resets twice a year.
At about $202 a month, the average Maryland household pays more than any other market where supply can be shopped — and the rate is up 14.6% in a year. Maryland's Standard Offer Service resets twice a year, most recently October 1. You won't know the new number until the bill arrives.

Why fixed
Your default rate has a
behavior problem.
It doesn't stand still.
Maryland's Standard Offer Service resets twice a year — June 1 and October 1, on a rolling twelve-month procurement. The most recent reset was October 1, 2026. The next is June 1, 2027.
Uncertainty is what you're buying now.
Unless you lock a rate, your supply price is set by a process you're not part of — and you find out what it did when the bill arrives. Over twelve months that can mean resets you never saw coming, each one priced before you could react.
One fixed number, twelve months.
One fixed supply rate. 12 months. Set on a two-minute call. The rate and the term are read to you out loud on a recorded verification before anything is authorized.
How it works, in three lines
- 1. Your bill has two halves.
- 2. Supply is the shoppable half.
- 3. That's the half a fixed rate applies to.
What it's worth
About two months of your electric bill. Every year.
Supply is roughly 55% of your bill and we model a 30% improvement on that half — about 1.98 months of the modelled bill per year. For the average Maryland household that's roughly $400 a year. It's a model, not a promise — what you're buying is the rate and the term.

Utilities in Maryland
Who delivers your power — and where to check officially
Supply choice in Maryland applies whichever utility serves your address (currently: BGE, Pepco, Delmarva Power, Potomac Edison). Your utility still owns the poles, wires and meter, still restores your power after an outage, and still sends your bill. What you can shop is the supply rate itself — standard offer service resets june 1, on a schedule your utility follows.
Your state's official shopping resource is Maryland Public Service Commission — Electric Choice — a good place to verify supplier licensing. For background on how the market works, read how electricity choice works or our guide to utility default supply rates.

Modelled, not quoted. Assumes supply is about 55% of your all-in rate and applies a 30% improvement to the supply portion only. Delivery charges don't change. What you're buying is a fixed 12-month supply rate — not a savings guarantee.
Three questions
See what a fixed rate looks like in Maryland.
Are you the person named on the electric bill?
Only the account holder can authorize a change — that's a state rule, not ours.
How we operate
Six checks between you and a bad deal.
This industry has a reputation, and it earned it. Here's exactly what happens before we hand you to anyone.
If it doesn't, we tell you and stop. We don't route calls we can't serve.
Switching an account you don't hold is illegal. We check before we connect you.
A recorded third-party verification confirms your identity, the rate, the term and the terms — in your own words.
Out loud, on the recording, before anything is authorized. No fine print doing the talking.
Every choice market provides one after enrollment begins. We'll explain yours on the call.
Same delivery, same outage response, same bill. We say it because it's the question everyone asks.
Questions
The things you're actually wondering.
Won't switching mess up my BGE budget billing?
No. Budget billing is a utility program and it stays. Your utility still bills you, still reads the meter, still restores your power. What changes is one line inside that same bill — the supply rate — and with a fixed twelve-month rate that line stops moving. Budget billing actually works better on a fixed rate, because the number it averages doesn't jump.
Does my power go out during the switch?
No. Nothing is disconnected and nothing is installed. Your utility keeps delivering the electricity over the same wires it always has. The switch happens on paper between your utility and the supplier, and it takes effect on your next meter read.
What happens when the twelve months are up?
The contract states what the rate rolls into when the term ends, and the agent states it on the call before you agree. At the end of the term you are free to shop again, sign another fixed term, or return to your utility's default rate.
Is there a fee to switch?
Your utility does not charge you to change suppliers. Fixed-rate contracts can carry an early cancellation fee if you leave before the term ends. The agent states that fee on the call before you agree, and it appears in the contract you receive.
